César asks to borrow the cerulean crayon, but little Gabi doesn’t know which crayon that is. Despite César offering to help, Gabi will not let him touch her crayons, setting off a playful search to discover which shade is cerulean. Through a series of yes\/no questions, arranging, eliminating color sets, and a lot of patience from César, Gabi finally finds the cerulean crayon. Herrera’s illustrations use a kaleidoscope of color, softened by a gentle crayonlike texture that gives each scene a playful, hand drawn feel. The Spanish text is set in a slightly larger black font, with the English text appearing below it in a smaller purple font. The back matter includes guidance for further math exploration along with related game recommendations. There is also a pronunciation guide for the few Spanish words that appear within the English text. Her older brother, César, is excited that Gabi received the perfect gift, a fresh box of 64 crayons, since his are all old and broken. César asks to borrow the cerulean crayon, but little Gabi doesn’t know which crayon that is. Despite César offering to help, Gabi will not let him touch her crayons, setting off a playful search to discover which shade is cerulean. Through a series of yes\/no questions, arranging, eliminating color sets, and a lot of patience from César, Gabi finally finds the cerulean crayon. Herrera’s illustrations use a kaleidoscope of color, softened by a gentle crayonlike texture that gives each scene a playful, hand drawn feel. The Spanish text is set in a slightly larger black font, with the English text appearing below it in a smaller purple font. The back matter includes guidance for further math exploration along with related game recommendations. There is also a pronunciation guide for the few Spanish words that appear within the English text.
